Benefits Of Exercise

Lipedema is a progressive connective tissue disease which affects the fat, blood vessels (especially the veins), lymphatics, ligaments, joints and even the skin. There are two kinds of fat in lipedema – non-lipedema fat and lipedema fat. Non lipedema fat responds reasonably well to exercise, however, lipedema fat responds partially or poorly to exercise. Heavy exercises like lifting weights and over stretching don’t go too well with lipedema.

Exercises like walking, jogging, cycling and swimming are good for those with lipedema and should be encouraged. With the progression of lipedema there can be accompanied pain in the extremities, especially the lower limbs, easy fatigue and frequent bruising. These exercises not only are helpful in toning the body, but also is effective on the non-lipedema fat and also stimulates the production of happy hormones to keep the individual protected from going into depression.
