Women with lipedema frequently experience constriction bands as a side effect. This may stretch upwards by 2-4 inches and is visible around the ankles and wrists. In the early stage a faint outline of this constriction band might be discernible; but as the play advances, it becomes increasingly obvious. It seems that this band stops lipedema fat from spreading to the foot and hand. As the condition worsens, lymphatic stasis in the area stretches the tissue, giving a dragging sensation that eventually turns into agony. In the beginning, some people are sensitive. This constriction band resembles either an ainhum, a pseudo-ainhum, or an amniotic band, albeit in a milder form. Early lipedema fat removal and the release of fibrous bands may be able to reduce localised pain and pulling in the affected area.
